since this is the "technical" section, i thought i would add to this post (haha, a quadruple post)
ok, the Tein upper pillow ball (and any upper pillow ball/camber plates) go in very easy.... basically start by lifting the car and removing the wheel i believe the bottom bolts are 21mm... could be wrong.... remove the bottom two strut bolts FIRST..... after you get these out, use another jack to jack up the entire strut assembly (take the bolts out... but it just seems easier to get the upper strut bolts out with them not falling out on you). the upper strut bolts (under the hood.... all 3 are 12mm) just come right off.... while the other jack is still holding it up, remove the brake line from the strut (if you haven't already cut the little slat in it.... get a dremel and cut it... it's simple... the bracket that is also in place works just fine.. in fact we had to make one because a shop had @#%$ up... no more shops for my car....) then just lower the jack holding the strut assembly when it drops down, you'll have to push the bottom down and back a bit, then pull the top out from the fender.... then you can pull it out (seems to work best). if the spring is under pressure, get a spring compressor (or get really a really creative way to take the impact when the top comes apart).... then remove the top bolt (19mm).... take off the strut mount (if it's the rear the dust shield will go with it...)... the tein (or whatever company) set should come with a spacer for each side, the plate, and a new upper bolt..... put the spacer in FIRST over the strut rod.... then put the new plate in (figure out which way faces out by telling which way the struts go in.... the bolt pattern IS specific on the strut mounts)..... then slide the new bolte into the camber plate and onto the strut rod (you'll probably have to push down a bit to get the thread to start).... tighten, then do the reverse steps above to put it back together! the rear is essentially the same.... except you need to first remove the rear dash cover to access the top of the struts.... and also you'll need a 5mm allen wrench and the 12mm wrench to get the rear sway bar un-attached from the strut |
